Steve K. Ngo: a Saturday`s Pipe Essay from Singapore

Great to meet you all again this morning. Got home, had lunch and I am feeling full of happiness after smoking two bowls in one morning. But the company was better! Being too free and nothing better to do, I did a short internet based research and uncovered many very interesting facts. Let's just call it my short pipe essay.

J.S. Bach, the great German composer and my greatest love! He loves his pipe as much has he loved God. He even wrote a Cantata (song) about pipe. The last line states "I smoke my pipe and worship God". That's truly 'holy smoke'. Amazing! For Bach audio investigate here-click into YouTube window

Sigmund Freud, the famous psychologist whom I may not love but I admire his intelligence and struggle. Plus, he is born on the same day and month as yours trully.

This is J R R Tolkien, the famous writer and professor at Pembroke College, Oxford University who wrote Lord of the Rings, among others. I suspected but only managed to confirm today that he is a pipe smoker. I love and 'hate' this. Why? Tolkien is part of the the "Inklings" who meet regularly at the Oxford's "Eagle and Child" pub. The pub is one of my favourite haunt and I just wondered last week, seating at the famous 'Rabbit Room' where Tolkien and C S Lewis often meet there to discuss their books; I was just thinking last week, did they both smoke pipes! Indeed they did. And what a shame, UK law now forbids smoking indoor. There goes creativity! I admire Tolkien for being a humble and God fearing person, in spite of his great intelligence.

This is C S Lewis another famous writer and buddy of Tolkien. He goes into my hall of fame for being an intelligent man who eventually agreed that there is a God, a supreme higher Being! Nice pose, don't burn your face!

Joseph Stalin - I am not a communist but thank you for helping to end the Second World War, or else my grandfather could have been killed by the Japanese and I wouldn't be around.

Albert Einstein, my childhood hero. A genius who never went to university; he worked in a Patent office and made a major discovery, then self studied for a PhD - you made me believe that success is possible.

Bertrand Russell - you are great with professional Philosophy and Economics. I wondered what you did with your $1million Nobel prize. But you got to learn from Bach, Lewis and Tolkien - too bad you think you are God? Look, he is lighting his pipe with a match! At least I am not the only clown who lights his pipe with a match. By the way Russell, if you have visited hell, I supposed it's smoke free down there?
